Chocolate Drink of Life ☕️

Hmmmm… chocolate. Do you ever wonder why they call it ‘death by chocolate?’ Yeah, me too. If you’re thinking that I’m going to give a short explanation on why they call it ‘death by chocolate’, you’re not going to get it. Oooh, I’m playing hardball… with no one, apparently and with no end goal in mind. 🤔

Anyway, you can read about it here why they call it ‘death by chocolate.’

A Little Backstory

When I was still back in school, I used to drink hot chocolate a lot — like every after dinner. My favorite brand was Swiss Miss. I don’t know if you all have that in your countries, but it’s this powdered chocolate milk drink that has little marshmallows inside. Basically, you put in hot water with the powdered chocolate mix and stir.

I used to drink that every night while I studied. I don’t know when or why I stopped. Eventually, my chocolate drink was replaced by green tea. I think I switched because it was healthier. In the end, I realized that I preferred tea (be prepared for future posts) to hot chocolate.

But then came…

Tablea

Here in the Philippines, we have what you call in english a chocolate tablet: Tablea.

It looks like this:

And you cook it with this:

But I just cook it with this:

It’s wrong to use my tool in cooking this because you get bits of chocolate left in the pan. To my knowledge, the batirol (second picture) is better at incorporating the chocolate with the water. We used to have one, but it got misplaced. I don’t really know where to buy one now.

Tablea is a round disk of happiness. This is what hot chocolate should taste like and it’s soooo good. Why?

Look at how it’s processed:

The process is very minimal. They basically roast the cacao beans, grind it up and mold it into a disk. The chocolate flavor is very strong in Tablea, which makes it so good!

Ways to Level Up Your Tablea drink:

  1. Optional: Use milk instead of water.
  2. Optional: Add in a dash of cinnamon.
  3. Required: Add unsalted butter. I’m not kidding. This is the most important part. Forget the other two steps. Tablea without butter is a Marvel movie about one superhero. Tablea with butter is Avengers. Does that make sense? Yeah, I’m trying to understand what I said, too.

Baking Life Lesson

I didn’t really bake anything, but maybe we can still learn something. Let’s see…

There is simplicity in the Tablea making process. Maybe, some things aren’t meant to be complicated because it is in the simple things we find joy especially if we add butter in it!

I’ll leave you to figure that out. ✌🏻
